Thank Goodness for a GPS, Coffee, and Peanut Butter Pie.
So, you know how I am all about finding adventure in just everyday life? Well…I won’t have to look very far for the next 3 weeks. I am back at school and things have started full force again. Today was my first day in the kindergarten classroom for an urban elementary school in Ft. Wayne. I have always wanted to teach in a more inner city type school, so this is perfect. Most of you have heard all of my stories from my first day today, and if you haven’t, ask me in person. They are pretty….something. I loved today, and I loved the kids, but it is definitely going to challenge and push me. I have never had to teach students who can’t speak English or who are below poverty level. Today really showed me that it is true: people need loving the most when they deserve it the least. Not that any of those kids don’t deserve love, but it is those kids who really try you and mouth off and tell you they can’t do anything that really need to be loved. So I just hope that I can make whatever sort of impact that I can in the few days I have left with these kids. Oh yeah…and they are all 5, and 23 five year olds is slightly intimidating, so please pray for me and that I won’t get tired, and that there won’t be any snow days because we would have to make those up J
On that note, I haven’t had to really get up for nearly 3 weeks, so today when my alarm went off at 5:45 I was less than excited to have to get myself looking presentable. Things weren’t exactly going wonderfully either because my shower was cold and our coffee pot had a gigantic crack in it, and it snowed a lot making our trip to Ft. Wayne slightly longer. The great thing though was that A) There are 4 of us who drive to the school together which is wonderful, B) Chelsey brought me a great cup of coffee, and C) Beth had a GPS so we did not get lost. Then, since Chelsey and I are both in kindergarten, we have the same lunch so we get to have lunch together everyday. Our first day eating in the teacher’s lounge. I am pretty sure I still felt like a child sneaking into the teacher’s room. Luckily, we ate together in the back, and tomorrow we are thinking of stepping it up and eating in the middle of the lounge and maybe even socializing with some of the other teachers hah.
When I got home from school, we all shared our great stories and took a nap. I have a feeling that will be the story of my life for a while now, and I am totally alright with that. As of now:
-I am watching The Bachelor with the girls
-Just ate a piece of peanut butter pie that was incredible
-Reading In Style
Life is pretty good right now, I would say.
P.S. I got a new travel journal for Christmas and the quote on the back is this:
“Go forth seeking adventure. Open your eyes, your ears, your mind, your heart, your spirit and you’ll find adventure everytwhere.” – Wilferd A. Peterson
"Adventure isn't hanging on a rope off the side of a mountain. Adventure is an attitude that we must apply to the day to day obstacles of life - facing new challenges, seizing new opportunities, testing our resources against the unknown, and in the process, discovering our own unique potential." _John Amatt
